Mask Off, Digital Video, 02:56, 2018

This video piece represents my research interest in hyperreality and transformation. While a mask functions as an apparatus that disguises appearance, the use of masks raises a question regarding authenticity of identity and how hyperreality can be easily fabricated. This video accordingly points out relevant contemporary social issues such as cryptocurrency, fake news, and virtual identity. As an attempt to create a phantasmagorical environment, a narrative figure incorporated with 3D animation is digitally cut, morphed, rendered, and composited in the blend of film footage and computer graphics.
